We have an exciting week ahead of us! First, it is a Star Wars Holiday tomorrow on May 4th, VERY exciting day for Star Wars fans like myself. I had the chance to rewatch the last Star Wars movie this Friday night and it was even better the second time around! Enjoy Monday, my Star Wars friends. May the 4th Be With You.
This past Friday of May 1st, we celebrated our amazing principals who have been working so hard behind the scenes to to support you and to support our students. We are so fortunate to have an all-star team leadership team who lead with empathy and compassion, put students first in their decision-making, and are the most dedicated group of leaders I have been fortunate to work with. If you haven't had a chance to thank a principal, please send them some love as we are all in this together.
But wait...there's more! This year we have Cinco de Mayo falling on Taco Tuesday! Since I legitimately make tacos every Tuesday (wait you don't?) this is an exciting development indeed.
If all of this wasn't exciting enough, this coming week is Teacher Appreciation Week! Woo, hoo! Thank you for your enthusiasm, passion, and commitment you keep bringing to our work, especially in our remote learning. As you continue to reach out in positive ways to connect with our students, you are making a difference every time, a huge one! While this is officially called Teacher Appreciation Week, I'd be remiss if I didn't thank all of our professional staff as well who are working alongside our teachers creating a village that we love in the MURSD.
While I wish I could thank you all in person, the best I could do was to put a little musical performance together for you because, let's face it....You Rock! I hope you enjoy! Professional Development
With the shift to remote learning, many online PD opportunities have opened up, it is sometimes difficult to keep all of the offerings straight. Therefore, I've created a PD Calendar that you can subscribe to and you will get access to various PD offerings taking place both in district but also externally. As I receive offerings that are coming up, I will add them to the PD Google Calendar. This PD Calendar pulls from other districts as well and has a mixture of offerings such as how to teach in remote learning, self-care topics, technology trainings, etc. If you have an offering you have found and think should be added to this calendar, please e-mail Maureen to be added. Click on the + button to add this calendar to yours and you won't have to go looking for when the PD offerings are happening anymore, because the links and registration will be right in your calendar to access. If you don't see the plus sign in the far right, then scroll over to the right at the bottom of the calendar and then it will appear. Click on that and add that link to your own Google Calendar. Or you can add it with this link: https://calendar.google.com/calendar/ical/mursd.org_195bu4d21lt6vjpacvtr0favg0%40group.calendar.google.com/private-b6ed2dd35a2245bf0b54d4a442c6135b/basic.ics

IMPORTANT. Primary Source Summer Offerings. The MURSD has a partnership with the Primary Source Organization offering us openings for members in summer courses for free. They have expanded their courses to online offerings. Here is a link to their updated programming. If you are interested in registering for a summer course reach out to Maureen with your interest.
Curriculum
In last week's memo, I shared out the pre-requisite standards for K-5 and 6-12 that were communicated last week by DESE.
The following chart is a beginning document to help us in our planning from this year to next year in regard to these perquisite standards. As we move forward with our planning, please take this chart and make a copy of it to use with your grade levels and departments. Feel free to add any additional information to the working documents as needed. We will be looking for it to be completed by school by the end of the year, but for now you can use it in your departments and grade levels for discussion and planning purposes. Our mentors and new teachers are asked to complete end of year surveys annually. I will be sharing these out directly with mentors and new teachers, but wanted to share the links to the emails here as well. Thanks in advance!
