We have an exciting week ahead with this year's first Inspired Learning Day happening on Tuesday, February 6, 2024. Our incredible school teams have planned some exciting projects and adventures and we can't wait to see them in action. Most importantly, our students look forward to a break from the schedule to explore different options. We are so thankful for everyone's efforts across the district to bring our Portrait of a Learner to life through some inspiring activities for our students. You may see some new faces as well, as Needham Public Schools has heard wonderful things about our Inspired Learning Days and are sending a team to check it out! It's National School Counseling WeekThis week is National School Counseling Week (Feb 5th-9th), which highlights the tremendous impact school counselors can have in helping students be successful in school and plan for their future. Be sure to high-five your School Counselors this week! New Educators meet - now march 4thWe shifted the New Educator workshop originally planned for February 6th to March 4th. We felt with PD and Inspired Learning Day, it would be better to make this shift. Andrea Rutkowski sent out an email asking new educators to fill out this form so we can organize some differentiated supports in March. Let us know if you have questions. For those educators in years 2 & 3 in the district, you will be receiving details shortly about our second round of learning walks this year. Learning Walks will take place in Ashland and Milford on March 13th, 18th or 20th. More details to come! Vertical Curriculum Leaders connectingCurriculum leaders across the district will be connecting in the next couple of weeks to review the district's revised Curriculum Review cycles, and help plan for vertical team work during our March PD day. If you are a Department Head, Department Coordinator or Curriculum Assistant and have not scheduled a time to meet with Cheryl, please reach out this week. PD Today!!Today is our next 1/2 day PD Day! Some of the highlights include A workshop on UDL, another on trauma-informed practices, applying the Portrait of a Learner to Art, and team collaboration focused on writing instruction and other learning goals. We will discuss key components of the treatment including history, underlying principles, structure, and skills. Register for free through Massachusetts Partnership for Youth (MPY). All sessions are from 9:30-11:30, Feb, 28, March 13 & 27, and April 10 &24. MURSD is in the National Ed Tech planThis year we are continuing the work Dave Quinn started with a team of staff last year to get a better sense of what technology we are using and how it's being used. The team's hard work even landed in the National Ed Tech Plan which was released on January 22, 2024, (see page 53). The team consisted of: Dave Quinn, Sam O'Neal, Amy Townsley, Britt Kahler and a former student. Your help is needed to continue the work. The internet is an incredible resource but it isn't always the safest place to be. Google's Applied Digital Skills platform is here to help with lessons you can do with your students. If you are new to Google's Applied Digital Skills' platform you might want to check it out. The platform is free and has hundreds of lessons for a large variety of topics for every grade level. Valentine's Day is coming! If you are looking for some activities to try with your class then check out this blog post.
